A brief for a “Gulf commercial leader” needs more detail before it becomes searchable. A role opening a new market is different from one expanding existing accounts or managing a partner network. The country priorities, customers and delivery model should shape the appointment.
Specify the territory and route to market
Record where the leader will focus first and which customer groups matter. Explain whether sales are direct, partner-led or a combination, and what support already exists. Do not assume experience in one country or customer segment transfers automatically to another.
Set out the practical requirements for travel, location and language where they are genuinely necessary for the work. Candidates need a realistic picture of the assignment from the first conversation.
Examine how business was won
Ask for a detailed account of a relevant opportunity. How was it identified? Who shaped the proposal? What objections emerged? What did the candidate personally own, and what depended on colleagues, partners or an established brand?
Explore the full commercial process rather than the final contract announcement. A leader’s approach to qualification, forecasting and internal coordination can reveal more than an impressive headline number without context.
Test the connection with delivery
Commercial leadership includes understanding what the business can fulfil. Ask how candidates handled a promising opportunity that stretched delivery capacity or required commitments the organisation could not yet support.
A practical scenario might involve competing growth opportunities with limited specialist resources. Look for a clear explanation of priorities, assumptions and the information needed before making a commitment.
Agree what the first year requires
Separate early groundwork from eventual revenue outcomes. Depending on the starting point, useful early milestones could include a validated account plan, qualified opportunities, agreed partner responsibilities or a more reliable forecasting process.
