Silence is one of the hardest parts of a senior job search. Before you send twenty more applications, stop and review. Most of the time the problem is not your experience. It is how that experience is reaching the people who decide.
Five things to check
- 1Role targeting. Are you applying for roles that match your level and your evidence? A broad search across many titles and sectors often looks unfocused to a hiring manager.
- 2CV relevance. Does the top third of page one speak directly to this role? Your profile and your first three achievements should match what the employer needs most.
- 3Evidence. Do your bullets show results with numbers, or only responsibilities? Senior shortlists are built on proof.
- 4Application quality. Is the company name correct, the file clear and professional, your location, notice period and right to work stated, and your LinkedIn consistent with your CV?
- 5Follow-up and network. Many senior roles are filled through networks and search firms. A short, relevant note to the hiring manager or a trusted recruiter can reopen a closed door.
Read the signal
No interviews at all
Usually a targeting or CV problem. Narrow your focus and rework page one.
Interviews, but no offers
Usually an interview problem. Work on how you tell the story behind your results.
Final stages, then silence
Often about fit, package or timing. Ask for feedback and refine your positioning.
Quality beats volume
Ten tailored applications to roles you genuinely fit will usually do more than fifty generic ones. Track what you send, what you changed and what response you received. The pattern will tell you where to focus.
Silence is feedback. It is telling you what to change before you send the next application.
